For those looking for a new show to help pass the time on their commute, or who feel “there’s only so much music” to accompany their smoke sesh, we went looking for the new, the notable and just interesting in the cannabis-centric podcast / YouTube channel realm.

These days it’s like there’s a podcast related to almost anything, but this really allows people to connect with who they relate most to, and has sprouted many topics and podcast styles covering specific niches.

It can be as simple as a few friends in extra-comfy chairs just smoking and having a good time, channels showing off new products or reviewing different strains, or other content focusing on the science or more technical details to get the most out of your bud or create the best product available.

Here’s a look at a few we enjoyed checking out…

The YouTube channel Let’s Be Blunt with Montel features host Montel Williams, a medical cannabis advocate who’s used medical cannabis products to effectively manage the symptoms of multiple sclerosis since his diagnosis in 1999.

Also available in audio format on podcasting platforms, the podcast works to bridge the gap between common cannabis knowledge and in-depth research, while also giving high-profile guests a chance to “be blunt” about their lives.

Explore the intersection of cannabis, activism, health and wellness with episodes featuring guests such as Jim Belushi, Redman, Tommy Chong, B-Real and others.

Often described as the OG of YouTube cannabis content, the hugely popular Dope as Yola, Thomas Araujo, has been posting about his love for the sacred herb since 2012 and, since then, has tallied hundreds of millions of views – and that’s without even mentioning his podcast.

His rise is largely credited to his fan-favourite “Story Time” videos, his easy-to-follow tutorials, product and strain reviews, but most of all, his infectious personality.

The rapidly growing Dope as Usual podcast boasts similarly impressive numbers, and is hosted by Araujo and the talented Marty O’Neil, who, among super bowl ad credits, produces the podcast, is a commercial videographer, a published photographer and author of the best selling Full-Time Podcaster: The Undisputed Guide to Starting a Successful Podcast.

Other than knowing what they’re talking about in terms of growing a fanbase, the podcast is a love letter to cannabis and features the two hosts smoking, chilling and telling stories, and captures the same feel-good energy as “Yola’s” solo videos do.

With guest appearances featuring up-and-coming YouTubers in the same space, the occasional celebrity appearance, such as Gabriel Iglesias, Steve-O and Young Jeezy, it’s the perfect podcast for that after work smoke ‘n chill session.

Finally, the aptly named Cannabis Cultivation and Science Podcast puts a scientific spin on the topic of cannabis cultivation. Talk about a STEM program, am I right? Podcast host Tad Hussey brings in leading horticulture and gardening experts to learn the latest information and research for cannabis cultivation.

The podcast’s goal is to get people away from some of the pervasive stoner myths and marketing gimmicks, with everything mentioned being backed by research.

With more than 120 episodes available on all the usual podcast platforms, the podcast is a vast well of information for those looking to take their cultivation to the next level.

Episodes break down seemingly niche, but incredibly important, topics such as soil composition, remineralization and nutrient density, the needs of growing indoor vs. outdoor, pest-management, and so, so, much more!

Hopefully we’ve been able to make your drive home just that tad bit less boring, but these mentions are but a drop in the bucket of what’s out there – do you have a favourite? Let us know!
